Can someone please give me some advice on how to negotiate with a car salesmen?

We are going to a dealership to buy a vehicle today and would like the best deal possible, how do we handle those people? Can someone please give me some advice on how to negotiate with a car salesmen?
You need to have a firm price in your head as to what you are willing to pay.

You need to know when to walk away.

They know all the tricks and financing a car. They'll talk strictly in terms of payments when you need to think about the final amount of interest you're going to pay.

If you are financing, you need to work out as much of the math before hand to determine your final cost. Take a calculator when you negotiate to see how much your final cost will be. If they say you'll pay $300 for 60 months you'll know what your final car cost will be.

And walk away when you don't have a deal. Don't get suckered into their quick talk. There are many dealerships out there selling the same or similar car.Can someone please give me some advice on how to negotiate with a car salesmen?
Check out what you think a fair deal is. If the car is used etc look up the Kelly Blue Book value. That will tell you the best way.
Take charge. Don't let them walk all over you.

If you don't like the terms, say so or leave.
Know what you want. Look up pricing information on the net.

Never! never buy the first day. Go to different dealers.

Make your offer. Make your final offer the next day.
Go up to the dealership on a Sunday, so you don't have them looking over your shoulder. Pick out want you want, and do some reasearch when you get home. Be prepared for the dealer to point you to a ';luxury'; car, so be prepared on what you would say such as ';I want this car'; Once you get back to the paper room, state what you want to pay monthly and you won't have it anymore (remember be very reasonable). And when ';negotiating'; start 2000 less for a newer car and about 500 less for a used car. If they notice you go to low, you'll lose the deal, and they won't ';negotiate at all';. Remember be firm, don't let them take advantage of you and walk all over you. Remember they don't get paid unless you make the buy.
Don't negotiate at all. Find a car that you are interested in, and make an offer. If you will be financing, tell them what your maximum payment can be monthly. Now, you have to be realistic here. You can't pay $150.00 per month on a mercedes. If you feel that you are not getting what you need, walk away. Be prepared to leave the dealership if need be. Make yourself a promise to not give in to high pressure sales. First and foremost, be prepared to not drive away with a new car if you feel that you did not get a good deal. If you have to have it today, then chances are good that you could get ripped off.
You know almost every dealer will want to test drive your trade in- the best thing I have ever done is to give them my spare set (just door key %26amp; ignition) if you have ever bought a car before they always tend to ';lose or misplace'; the keys so you cannot leave %26amp; must sit %26amp; negotiate... if I get fed up and want to leave I state it and head for the door they always mention about the lost keys and you can't leave without them, I get out my real set and tell them I am calling the cops over the lost ones to get them back, they always show up immediately- and you are in charge of things instead of them....
research your best three cars and their known faults. Play down the benefits and play up the downsides. They don't negotiate!, they are working to a profit margin and figure. Keep calm, do not seem too keen, prepare a set of questions beforehand %26amp; if possible have some comparable prices for the models from competitors. If possible take someone who knows about cars with you %26amp; take their advice. Good hunting!
