I'm starting up a new business to counsel new and prospective pet owners before they buy or adopt a dog or cat for the first time. I'm having trouble finding these people so I can advertise to them. If they don't have a pet yet, advertising in traditional animal outlets won't work. Any suggestions?Any advice about how to target new or prospective pet owners?
Those free card signs in your grocery store, magnetic car door signs, internet website, coupons, flyers, ask your vet to put up advertisement in their lobbies, join your chamber of commerce..they hold monthy breakfest meetings to exchange buisness cards with the local buisness owners..sorta like barter buisnessAny advice about how to target new or prospective pet owners?
To make money, you have to spend money. Advertising is your best way along with word of mouth.
I truly don't know too many people that would pay for advice on how to adopt a pet. Kind of a tricky area to get people interested in.
Have you tried from the approach.....';acceptable breeds';? Do you have a really clever business name? One that reaches out and begs for your service. Or a catchy byline....';So You Think You are Ready to Adopt';....A pet that is. Or offered to physically go with the people and help them choose an animal? Offered inhouse counseling? Do you have a professional brochure to leave at various businesses? Endless questions.
Have you considered starting a pet sitting business in conjunction with a counseling service? People will hire a pet sitter before they pay someone to tell them how to adopt a pet. At least with pet sitting, you can leave a pamphlet for your customers to share and that is good word of mouth advertising.
Put your business card or flyer on vet's offices bulletin boards, libraries, super markets, laundromats, colleges, beauty salons, etc. Take out ads in the free weekly newspapers in your area. They are usually pretty cheap. Start a website...there are many free websites on the net. All those annoying adverts that come once a week in your mail box? Some of the adverts in there are pretty inexpensive and cover a wide area.
You can also have a ';gimmick';...along with your ';serivces'; they get a free pamphlet on ';how to care for the new family member';. Once you get rolling, have some wholesale company personalize some type of product with your business name on it you can give your customers. People love freebies of any nature. Or you can make up some cute cat mat with catnip in it or a dog toy to give once they have adopted. Send or deliver it along with a thank you note for using your services.
I think being an entrepreneur is awesome, but it takes a lot of ingenuity to make a success of something offbeat.
I wish you every success.
you could hang up signs or pictures of the animals at like the grocery store gas station library if you have a place called curves the work out place for adults. But my advise i wouldn't count on.jk lol
