Do you have any advice on how to teach English to Korean adults?

I have several female friends (25-35) who I teach as a favour but I am not an English teacher .The problem is the only materials I can find are either suitable for high school students (ie full of cartoons) or high level business texts. Can you point me in the right direction?

Also what topics are off conversational limits for Korean people.Do you have any advice on how to teach English to Korean adults?
im an english teacher... to koreans.. ESL teacher..

anyway, wow! are you sure you are giving your services for free? they are lucky. they usually pay a lot just to learn english.

withouth any experiences in teaching english as a second language, it would really be quite difficult. additionally, you dont have any materials. how can you properly teach.......? :)

in your case, i suggest the following:

1. just have english conversations. it helps! you can have any topics as you want if you are already close with them. just depend on your gut feeling if it feels right to talk about it already.

2. pictures are great! i use them especially for beginners. you can ask them to describe the pictures. ask them to make a story out of the pictures. the possibilities are endless if you properly use a picture.. just use your imagination.

3. give them a daliy homework. let them write their dairies in english. check it and explain the structures and grammar. ..

4. short stories from children's book are great for beginners. just cut the pictures out so it doesnt look really childish. they learn how to read and they learn new words.

5. TALK, TALK, TALK.. that's it. speak clearly but not necessarily slow. it depends on how much they can already comprehend..

there are many ways to teach english to koreans.. just use your imagination and dont be afraid to try new things...Do you have any advice on how to teach English to Korean adults?

The way to teach any language is to teach it so that the students learn it as they learnt their own native language when they were children growing up at home.

How is this done? It is done by pointing to an object and saying the name out loud. Point at bucket and say BUCKET. Now encourage the class to repeat the word. Repeat it several times.

Do not rush this process. Five new words each lesson is good enough. Repetition works - keep saying the words outloud : -

BUCKET

DOOR

HOUSE

TENT

CAR

Don't bother about spellings and/or grammer, just cram their brains with words. The rest will just slot into place later.

You only need about 500 words of English to hold some sort of modest conversation. Once you've got to that level you can get on with the business of English proper - etc.

Repeat after me: -

BUCKET

DOOR

HOUSE

TENT

CAR

All you need are pictures of the objects.
Speak loud %26amp; slow.

Sorry.
ok well, first you must know what are the history of this people your going to teach...after knowing there background personality you must be knowledgable enough on how they can work on it.they say that adult people is now very slow when it comes to memorizing.so for that u should be more confident and ofcourse patience in teaching them.

basically teachers do work first on the basic things in teaching. you must teach them first the basic things like the alphabet.thengo on with the colors the particular things that they've seen everyday..,so after u give them exams already..,,,then tha's it you can now talk to them in english but be sure that you would be more specific in what you are saying to them..,

ahm that's only the basic things ok,,..

im not very pamiliar with the other one,..
SLOWLY
well if you try to teach them then writetheword in english then slowly try to teach them how to under stand it then teach them how to say it inkorean with the english pernounciation
