I recently purchased a house with a septic tank. Any advice on how often to get it pumped?

Any other maintenance tips also appreciated! Thanks.I recently purchased a house with a septic tank. Any advice on how often to get it pumped?
Do yourself a favor and read ';The septic System Owner's Manual'; ISBN 0-936070-20-x

It's a quick read of about 200 pgs., and it will tell you everything you need to know about the proper care of your system, including why it is not necessary to have your system pumped often, and why additives like rid x are useless.I recently purchased a house with a septic tank. Any advice on how often to get it pumped?
the better you take care of the septic system, the less you have to have it pumped out.I was told that people who use harsh cleaners like bleach and other things are killing the bacteria in the septic that keeps things working right.
They say... RidX... When was the last time it was pumped...
as long as you have no problems with it do nothing except to put rid-x down a toilet at least once a month. costs about 7 bucks and can be bought @ walmart and home depot etc.
These guys work fast. I just wait till the toilets won't flush. Then I call the guy and he is there the same day. Sometime its a year some time its three or four years. Just don't pour grease in there. I am in my new house six years and haven't done it yet. It has to do with how much leech line you have and how many people are in the house. It the ratios are good you may never have to pump it out
Once a year.
Septic tanks need to be pumped regularly but not many people do so. The volume in the tank needs to be a certain amount for the amount of people useing it. Sludge reduces this over time. 66% of the anerobic action takes place in the soil after the effluant leaves the tank. This is why septic tanks do not work in sandy soil. It probally needs pumping out now as the previous owners probally never did it.
once a year is the general concept. you might want to do it right away in case the previos owners were slacking
