Any advice on how to stop a dog from barking at other dogs (even dogs that are 20 feet away)?

My husband and I have a Beagle that spends a great deal of time outdoors because she isn't house trained. Whenever a person walks by with a dog, our dog jumps up and down, scratches the fence and barks/howls at them. What can we do to stop this behavior?Any advice on how to stop a dog from barking at other dogs (even dogs that are 20 feet away)?
correct him...spare the rod, spoil the dogAny advice on how to stop a dog from barking at other dogs (even dogs that are 20 feet away)?
dont do the dog collar that makes hich pitch sound when dog barks i did and dog barks collar makes sound dos barks at sound and so on until battery wears out a few hours earlier if though it should have lasted a long time
First teach him to ';speak'; on command.

Then teach him to ';stop'; after ';speak';.

Use appropriate rewards when teaching both.

Once you have done this, use the ';stop'; command when ever he starts barking.

Remember, the initial barking is intended to warn you of intruders, he thinks he is doing the right thing, by commanding him to ';stop'; you let him know you are aware of the intruder and as pack leader have decided there is no threat.
I was having the same problem with my dogs. I was told to calmly correct them when they bark at something going by and for everytime they don't bark, show them TONS of compassion... It's the opposite of what people think to do. Never scold for doing something wrong, just praise for doing right.
Let's start with house training the dog.

There are tons and tons of web site on the net on how to train your dog to be a good a dog.

You are the humans and you need to take the leadership role which you haven't done yet.
If you take the dog for walks and have him on a leash you tug the leash when they are doing something they aren't supposed to do.

You could put up a fence she can't see through.

Sounds like you need to spend more time with your pet. Take him to obedience school. Teach her to be house broken.
My dogs do that 2! I have cocker spaniels and they go nuts when someone drives in the drive way or another dog walks by or when a car drives by!
Go behind him with a pop can filled with pennies. Dont let him see you. Throw the pop can right beside him and walk away. Do this everytime he barks. He will think that everytime he barks, something will fall from the sky.

Also you can use a spray bottle. Everytime he barks spritz him with water from the spray bottle. Firmly tell him ';NO';. He will not learn right away, but he will take a few days for it to sink into him.
